Because it was character development, robin herself explained it, it was great because of sanji's blind faith in Robin's strength

Sanji learned to rely on others, that moment was great, chapter 1020 made it even better because oda gave the middle finger to all those that said that sanji was pathetic for trusting Robin

He wasn't, he showed faith in someone else, and sanji never betrayed luffy, by your logic Robin betrayed luffy?

It wasn't damage control. His intentions were always to protect the crew, he didn't betray them then went to ask them for help, he tried to save them, failed and had to trust them

Oda is probably going to drag out the "resolve" portion of the fight. Sanji is refusing to accept becoming like his siblings. We'll get another chapter later on focusing on that. Then when he does he'll get the full transformation/powerup that has him defeat Queen.
