The whole battle was him trying to figure out King's race and weakness, and mainly how to tame Enma

Luffy personally wanted and got fs to combat Kata
Zoro got coc to tame Enma. King is an afterthought

If Oda wanted Zoro to get CoC to beat King, he won make the whole chapter about Zoro trying to tame Enma but rather zoro trying to figure out King's weakness and says I'm gonna surpass you or whatever.

If he wanted to control just enma then he would have CoC coating only on Emma and not on all of his 3 swords.

So decided to do a Vs. Chapter summary to compare when Oda does 1 chapter fights vs 2+. I'm also only including Strawhat Vs chapters but not Luffy, as non-strawhats and Luffy have vastly different battles and priorities in this manga. Keep note that Vs. titles in this series are pretty rare, and didn't really start for the crew outside of Luffy until Arlong (and then didn't occur again until Skypiea).

Also, it's important to note that the "Vs." chapter doesn't really signify a pattern, It can be the last chapter of a 3 chapter fight, or the first as you'll see below.


1 Chapter Fights:

Arlong Park:

Dressrosa:

* Zoro is the only person (outside of Law) that has a Vs. Chapter title in DR). Not even Luffy has one. Many of the fights are 1 chapter each, but no Vs. titles.


Wano:

Robin
"Robin vs. Black Maria" (ロビンvs.ブラックマリア, "Robin Bāsasu Burakkumaria")
"Demonio" (デモニオ)


So you can see, even Wano barely fits the mold of Vs. titles, and there aren't too many examples to go by in this manga outside of Luffy. Like he didn't give one to Franky in DR and Wano, but did in Enies Lobby. He gave 1 chapter to Jinbe but 2 to Robin. Even more interesting is the difference between both 1 or 2 chapter titles is fairly close (11 vs 10 respectively), so there actually isn't a solid determination to what Oda is going to do.


Tldr: Past chapter titles actually seem to have no bearing on when a fight will or can end. Sanji vs. Queen can end this chapter, 1035 or 1036 and there would be an example above that would support any scenario. Hell, Sanji could win mid chapter in either subsequent chapters and it still would be supported by a past example.

There are FAR more non-Vs. chapters with fights than there are Vs. chapter titles.

Edit: The only thing I'd say it does suggest is that the fight will end soon (i.e. same chapter or 1 to 2 more chapters), as every single vs title suggests this. This is why you haven't seen "Zoro vs King" or "Sanji vs Queen" in earlier chapters, even though they've received plenty of fight panels.
