Robin is a crew member, obviously we knew that there's going to be a backstory for her. That's not the case when it comes to characters outside of the crew. You never know whether Oda will give that "X" character a backstory, hell, the only reason people expect Kaido's backstory is because we had Big Mom's backstory in WCI.
at Mihawk suddenly allied with 20 other characters because me no like that he stands alone in the endgame, way to late to rewrite his character. 
No the problem is certain people think that Mihawk will magically appear in the endgame without plot relevance. That he'll just be MIA and then will himself into existence when needed. It's not really about his backstory being shown at the last minute.
It would be like Big Mom not being in Wano for 110 chapters, then showing up the last 20 to fight Kid and Law.
Mihawk has plot relevance with Shanks, there is past there that will be explored. Mihawk likely has some relation to the end plot and relevance to it. Not just some cardboard cutout antagonist that's waiting for Zoro lol.
When has any OP character been like this? Even Pound would have more relevance to the story than Mihawk if that happened

The gum-gum fruit is actually the moon-moon fruit and gives him tidal forces.
Luffy does have the ability of the tidal forces and can pull (i.e. stretch) his body in all directions. His awakening would be that he can apply these forces on other objects as well. Tidal force: Wikipedia

Awakened fruit users have shown to change the environment of whole islands (permanently). Luffy might not destroy the red line, but might be able to increase the sea level so much, that the sea level is as high as the red line, also creating the often theorized "all blue".
This theory "connects" with the recent revelation of the interest of the government in the fruit and with the sun and moon theme. The government might think / might have thought that Luffy cannot awaken the fruit to such an extent that he is a threat and / or that they now have a countermeasure (Vegapunk?...)
That is all for now and was just an idea I had 15 minutes ago...

- one of Roger's greatest objectives was to find a certain Devil Fruit. He studied about its existence from Poneglyphs and scholars' manuscript, also from exploring various civilizations. Roger finally sensed a strange presence within an ancient ruin's secret chamber, guarded by Emerald Tortoise, a mythical beast even feared by Zunisha. Defeating The Emerald Tortoise, Roger finally obtained the fruit he was looking for, identifying ts true name and potential.
- Gomu2 no Mi's true name is Supè Supè no Mi, abbreviation of Supèsu (Space)
- Using Ultimate PK level AdvCoC-VoAT on Supè2 Fruit, Roger extract and conquer the Devil Spirit inside the fruit. The Devil Spirit is able to manipulate the space itself, capable of teleporting, distance-shortening or -lengthening, creating space or pocket space etc, without being weakened by water or sea
- Roger deemed this fruit as too dangerous and powerful, Government may hunt him for possessing this fruit and Spirit, possibly sending even The Ancient Weapons to destroy him, his crew, his family, in order to annihilate this power that is capable of disturbing the Government's stability. The burden is too heavy for him at this point.
- But Roger also saw a limitless potential and benefit of this fruit and Spirit to realize good ideals upon this suffering world.
- In order to hide his possession of Devil Spirit, Roger asked Crocus and his team of biological scientist to create an artificial humanoid body. A child's body to be exact.
- Roger used his CoC-CoA fusion to inject the Devil Spirit of Space into the artificial child, essentially bringing the body (container) to life by Devil Spirit filling it as the owner of the mind and soul.
- The process of Devil Spirit injection dyed the artificial human's hair by Roger's signature CoC color. Which caused its hair to be colored red.
- This is the birth of Devil Advent of Space. Red Hair Shanks!
- Getting the ability to communicate due to its insertion to a human's body capable of doing so, Shanks told Roger a few secrets of One Piece World. Including Imu's identity and also ideals to enslave every single creature by creating collective consciousness (hive mind), Imu has the power of Ultimate Dominion (Control), which Roger was enraged about.
- Shanks and Roger discuss about the solution. Shanks looked at the fruit, the shell that still hold a superficial fragment of his Devil Power. Roger told Shanks to keep the Fruit for himself until he found a worthy successor of his power. The one eating the fruit will gain the ability to stretch and compress only his/her body, instead of entire space.
- Shanks met Luffy and instead of finding a successor, Luffy ate it himself, making his fate linked to that of Shanks, The Devil Spirit, without realizing.
- The treasure hunt race between Red Hair Pirates and Strawhat Pirates commences.
The very final location, is located at the ancient ruin that Roger previously found, at the top of the tallest mountain in the world. And the treasure, to Luffy's surprise, is Shanks himself, waiting within the otherwise-empty mountain peak.
- Shanks stated that only Luffy can inherit his Devil Spirit power of space, since Luffy was the one eating Gomu2 Fruit. But in order to do so, Luffy has to defeat Shanks to prove his worth. To get Shanks' power. This is Red Treasure.
- But during that fight, Shanks realizes something else.
- Luffy breaks the limit of what VoAT can do, injecting his limit-breaking CoC (Will of D) inside the VoAT. Using it, he trace back the nature of Gomu2 Fruit, which is space-based power that Shanks owns. Luffy breaks the power root using the CoC. The rubber boy becomes linked to the very nature of physics in One Piece realm, and creates his own Haki: Color of Life.
- Color of Life is an unduplicable power domain, a completely original power belonging to Luffy. Luffy is now an entity capable of breaking limit of physics. He can achieve speeds inifinitely Faster Than Light, he can achieve mass infinitely heavier than Supermassive Blackhole. He can also break continuums of space, defeating Shanks clearly with it.
- Shanks surrenders, preparing to insert his true self, the Devil Spirit, from the human container to Luffy.
- Shanks is unable to do so. He wonders why. Apparently Luffy already breaks the Roots of Space within the fruit in order to achieve Color of Life, so Luffy has no more Gomu2 Power. He cant stretch his body anymore, he cant do more Gears, he gets Color of Life as the replacement.
- Shanks apologizes since now Luffy can't inherit the Red Treasure anymore (power of space), but Luffy says The Red Treasure being his friend and partner, is no different than Luffy getting the powers himself.
- Starting from that day, The Red Hair Pirates officially becomes a part of Strawhat Fleet, shocking the entire world in awe. This is the prelude of the grandest war that will engulf the entire world.

And Sanji vs Beckmann is a possible byproduct of believing Shanks and Mihawk will ally, that's it. There is no agenda there.
