It doesn't matter who and who not cares about the WSS title. You automatically become a contender for the WSS title or even become the WSS yourself, if you display the strength necessary. Whitebeard didn't care about being called the WSM either, yet he was given that title though his actions and power. Mihawk himself isn't even interested in being the WSS; he waits for the swordsman to surpass him, even trains him.

Haki is an essential skill for a master swordsman. Mihawk said one has to achieve hardening, for every scratch on one's blade is a shame. Hyo said that through using Ryuo, the swordsman becomes one with his blade. And not long ago we learned that you can infuse your swordsmanship with CoC too.

Problem is; Whitebeard also had top level Hakis, he had a supreme grade blade too, he even had the world's strongest paramecia on top of it. While Roger was just a swordsman. Which shows that the skill itself (way of the sword, or grace as Mihawk phrased it, which makes a sword powerful) is immensely powerful. You can't argue with Haki since all the top tiers have high level Haki and Roger in particular incorporates it with swordsmanship.

important to note here roger has no such swordsman title attributed to him .

fail to see why this paragraph is relevant or why am being told something I know

doubtful
he challenged other swordsmen because he had that clear goal in mind , now that he's achieved it ,he is looking for another challenger .

False you can
finally an actual answer to the question I was asking .
do you believe one's willpower doesnt vary even while they are top tiers ?
you arent reading then

his fighting style isn't why he is the strongest comrade
consider the best of this "fighting style" in current day who definitely is weaker than roger . its clear as day.

大海賊時代以前より頭角を現し、今や名実共に「世界一」の座に君臨し続ける、稀代の大剣豪。
He made a name for himself before the Great Pirate Age. Now he continues to reign from his place as the Best in the World both in name and reality He's an extremely rare ( amazing ) swordmaster.

Because getting stronger swords makes him stronger. Just because he wants to become stronger doesn't mean he is actually pursuing getting the WSS title.
Or would you say that if Sabo were to get a stronger pipe he was going on the patch to be the strongest pipe user instead of just being stronger?
Wielding a pipe isn’t a fighting style in of itself, not even for Sabo, he uses that in conjunction with his martial arts. The latter is actually what is fighting style is, the pipe is just a complementary aspect. Same goes for swordsmen. They have a fighting style of their own where swordsmanship dictates how they fight, regardless of what they use in conjunction to complement their swordsmanship. Shanks was never once seen fighting without his sword, thus he qualifies as one and the “duels” he had with Mihawk for all intents and purposes confirm his initial pursuit of the title.

So Oden's Togen Totsuka did more to a healthy Kaido than Luffy's island sized awakened punch will do to a Kaido who already ate 68 attacks from Luffy, most of which had CoC in them.

Swordsmanship.
Lol, most of the battle between Oden and Kaidou is off paneled. And the Kaidou right now is far stronger than Kaidou in flashback. And as usual you are making random assumption.

Like who? Would have been pointed out if he did, seems like the only other strong dude he fought intensively was Mihawk. Other than that, every other big clash was either mentioned or shown directly to us. Nothing indicates he even had the opportunity to meet with the stronger guys when it was heavily implied they rarely meet.
had skirmishes with wb
and one with kaido which led kaido to believe he could go toe to toe with him
so um

it feels like one is resting off laurels 12 years ago while the other continues to step up to relevant people.

"Nothing indicates he even had the opportunity to meet with the stronger guys when it was heavily implied they rarely meet."

lol

He had the greatest title; being the King of the Pirates. After all, he wasn't called world's strongest man either despite he was Whitebeard's benchmark and his equal in strength.

he challenged other swordsmen because he had that clear goal in mind , now that he's achieved it ,he is looking for another challenger .
So? That means that he sees no swordsman in current history capable of taking him down. Including Shanks.
do you believe one's willpower doesnt vary even while they are top tiers ?
Of course it does. But what does will power even mean in the first place? The power to endure more, pull through, hit harder? Will power alone is not enough if you lack strength. Will power might as well be what gives you strength and contributes to your power level. But what Roger achieved combat wise, he did through his blade.
