You still don't get it.
Oda not only showed him along that group but also had him interact with Whitebeard, Doffy, Mihawk, Akainu, Jozu and even Sengoku acknowledged his strength.
He certainly wasn't supposed to be taken as weak but yall "feats wankers" used every good feat for Crocodile (where Oda intends to say that he's strong) as an anti-feat for the other characters and started downplaying them (fex Mihawk).

We already know the lvl of crocodile, at best he's YC1 lvl, but it doesn't change the fact that in a Yonko crew someone has to have a lvl of a Yonko and it's Mihawk here

No, I think he got stronger. But it was more of one Medium Tier jump instead of the dozens of tiers jump that the fandom thinks it was

Shanks crew thought a CP9 agent was a big deal even after years in the New World. Lucci was probably at least as strong as someone like Amande

Being rivals indicates comparable growth rate. And Mihawk is factually not clinging to his WSS title, wants people to surpass him and even trains them.

Why not chilling at his castle? Because he is being chased now, how can he chill on one place? Even Prime Whitebeard said it's pointless to keep fighting them, as new ones will come. Becoming part of an Organisation that turns the hunters (marine) into the hunted, even with bounties on their heads, would be the most exciting thing to do from Mihawk's perspective, rather than just endlessly sailing on his boat and fighting marines for free.
