Yeah, Blackbeard’s the total opposite of Luffy. He doesn’t take chances and he backs away from a fight if he thinks he can’t win. He thinks having more DFs makes you stronger.

Luffy takes chances all the time and he’ll fight anyone even if he isn’t quite on their level. Luffy trains his DF as well as he can and doesn’t try to obtain HAX methods.
