Late, but I thought it was a really good chapter. There was so much going on. The first thing that was good is that Oda definitely isn’t drawing things out. This chapter ran the span of multiple days, and it doesn’t look like we have terribly far to go until we start the war.
It was awesome to see Luffy training, it reminded me of the scene with Garp and Chinjao, how Garp boasted about cracking mountains to train to beat Chinjao. It looks like he’s getting the hang of the advanced CoA too, judging by those perfectly circular dents he’s leaving in the steel. Luffy’s busy training with advanced CoA and people think that Zoro, who’s far, far weaker than Luffy is going to just critically injure Kaido because of a sword. Smh.
The scene with Zoro, Hiyori, and Kawamatsu was funny mainly because Zoro giving zero context to his statements, Kawamatsu thinking he’s a nut job, and Hiyori ignoring Kawamatsu. Though I guess Kawamatsu hasn’t put together that Zoro and the others are actually subordinate to Luffy, as he asked Hiyori if she could trust Zoro. Wouldn’t have questioned it if he had known.
My boy Law beat the shit out of Hawkins, took his hands and legs from him. I was solid before the chapter that Hawkins was going to join the alliance, and then was a little shaky with the spoilers, but then the chapter reinforced that he would join the alliance based on his statements. The very first thing Hawkins did when he met up with Luffy was tell Luffy his chance to live through Wano. Hawkins basically implied in he chapter that if there was any other way to live, he wouldn’t have joined him. He knows that Luffy has a decent chance to live, so he could look at joining the alliance as a way of getting out from under Kaido. Hawkins also props up Kid and Killer a bit, describing how they fought against Kaido. Also shows a difference between Kaido and Whitebeard, both keeping high-spirited guys, the former likes to break them and the latter likes to cultivate them.
The guy in the shadows was obviously Drake. So Drake and Hawkins will both be in the alliance. The more of the Supernova that join, the less chance there is for Zoro to even stand in front of him. Also, Apoo is going to get rolled, it seems.
The panel with everybody gathered together was great aesthetically. Cool to see everyone back together again, we’re just really missing Luffy (though I know that Franky is down at the shipyard). He shouldn’t be to much longer to arrive. Noticed how Robin is holding on to Toko, must be giving Nami pointers when it’s time for Nami to hold her own daughter Tama lol
The Kaido - Big Mom alliance was a twist but I don’t think it lasts. I think one of them accidentally hits the other during the war and then they turn into enemies and it becomes the free-for-all. Pretty hilarious to see the drunk as hell though. The Numbers are also interesting, it’s about time we see who those things were behind Thriller Bark. I have no idea who the hell is going to fight them.
Anyway, really good chapter. Almost to the climax of Wano!
