Mihawk is definitely stronger. man achieved a black blade and has the title of world's strongest swordsman. Shanks has none of that.
I don't see how Minato could deal with Tsukuyomi, Izanagi, Izanami, Susanoo or Yata's mirror. His only win con is marking Itachi's back with a raijin seal, which I don't see happening either. Minato is severely lacking in the AP department, and we don't know how good he is at dealing with genjutsu.
He can probably break free from Itachi's regular genjutsu (Naruto did it). He does have the CQC advantage due to his speed and space-time ninjutsu. Itachi could eat a rasengan if he tries to fight Minato straight on without Susanoo. Itachi probably wins this extreme diff, though. Minato can't dodge forever, and Tsukuyomi is extremely lethal.

How?
SM is a bad match up for genjustsu. It was explained in the Jiraya vs Pain and SM training arc.

Minato stans are honestly making better arguments than most in this thread which is good to see.

It’s just crazy how people think he low diffed Obito though when he self admitted it coulda gone either way. OM Obito > Hokage Minato isn’t up for debate.

And then there’s one specific guy bringing up the outdated 2005 Jiraiya argument lmfao

CT is indeed a hard counter but I think a Susano’o might manage to break out of it. It’ll take a while. Enough to kill Sick Itachi but Edo and Healthy Itachi should still have enough left in the tank to punish Pain. Definitely a valid wincon for Pain though.

Rinnegan isn’t necessarily resistant to Genjutsu, especially not MS+ levels of Genjutsu. It’s not stated anywhere. It’s only stated Sasuke’s Rinnegan is enough but that’s amped by SO6P chakra.

Pain vs Itachi is a close fight and I could see compelling arguments for either side. It’s only a problem when people pretend Pain won’t be pushed to a hard fight though
I don't know why you're fighting this. The fight was low diff despite all the advantages Obito held.

- Obito had the element of surprise
- Obito had the Full Kyuubi
- Minato had to both protect the village and fight both Obito AND the Kyuubi
- Minato's mind was split in several different places. The village, Kushina, Kyuubi and Obito.

Despite all these advantages Minato folded Obito without as much as a scratch, just pure pawnage. Remove any of the outside distractions, Minato folds him even harder. Obito was never in the same plane as Minato in that fight. It was a schooling.

Older Obito turned out to be disappointing when all was said and done. Kakashi defeated him once Obito's kamui became useless and it's already been proven ineffective against Minato.

Minato > Itachi
Minato > Hashirama

Minato is just below Naruto.

Remember Itachi catches you in a blink of an eye, while Minato at that time already killed 20 fodders.

You can't win
Oh Minato vs Itachi, throws me back :yearight:

Anyway as far as their battle is concerned, I think knowledge is important. It all comes down to the genjutsu vs ftg debate, but knowledge dictates how much easier either can take advantage of this

However few things to note. With his speed, hax(teleportation, ftg barrier, sealing techniques), sensory ability, things like Amaterasu or Susanoo are completely useless, and since Minato is a natural sensor, capable of clone usage, with perfect chakra control it makes it extremely hard for Itachi to manage a genjutsu since not only clones counter genjutsu, but he can sense chakra flow to detect any genjutsu use, and with perfect chakra control can even break any genjutsu outside of tsukiyomi

A simple throw of ftg kunais and Minato already controls the battlefield environment, forcing Itachi on the defensive(Susanoo) to potential prevent fast/blindside attacks, pushing him under pressure(potentially attacked at any moment, Susanoo chakra use, drawbacks) without Minato having to do much

Furthermore, he only needs one touch to end the fight due to permanent markings, which given his speed, intellect and potential distractions(ftg kunais, clones, ... ) is easier to happen.

And that's discounting things like ftg swap(which might allow him to get rid of Susanoo), ftg lvl 3 which we never got to see, sealing techniques, SM with summons(although not really in character for him, but amphibian technique might theoretically allow him to counter his SM duration issue)

In terms of portrayal as well, Itachi considered Obito(who he thought was Madara) as his superior mentor who needed the EMS to be surpassed, when Minato could beat him fast even while lacking knowledge, and being under pressure(Kushina/his newborn son, the Kyubi(the strongest biju), the village). Later in the war arc, he even got KCM which only happens if you manage to best your biju, and in the recent one shot, his potential was even compared to Hashirama's(god of shinobi), although he died too early to realize it

All to say that Minato is overall the superior fighter

As for the Mihawk vs Shanks debate, Shanks has always been portrayed as a swordsman and Mihawk is the strongest swordsman.

But it's implied they never settled before Shanks lost his arm, and both grew stronger since then, with Oda always leaving it ambiguous.

So while there is more reason to view Mihawk as stronger, I'd not be surprised if Oda viewed them as equals. It might also depend on how Oda will develop the black blade stuff
