Controversial What's the biggest disappointment you've ever suffered in One Piece?

MUUGEN

呪のろいの王
Mine would have to be not being able to witness the Aokiji/Akainu fight. I've long accepted that Oda just isn't that good when it comes to writing fights compared to other authors but in almost every other instance between prominent people fighting in the verse Oda gave us something like a clash or a nicely drawn panel. You'd think a fight that has so much significance would atleast be shown to some extent. What's the thing that disappointed you the most?
as i understand the frustration you also have to understand that fight overall has nothing to do with the main cast storyline so it would just be wasted time for Odas timeline.

Morgan was the only exception, for every other big bad or final boss that the Straw Hats faced it was Luffy's fight, it was obvious that Kaido wouldn't be an exception.
The argument then becomes, "there are no exceptions aside from exceptions."

I can give Oda the benefit of narrative red herrings but it's still weird to make a whole legend about a guy doing something, then bring his descendant to the same set up only to not actually go with it. The arc literally ends with people in Wano supposing that Luffy must be like Ryuma and it's hard to deny it's pretty egregious.

That's because you re a zoro fan and you hate one piece man, nothing logical about this sentiment:kizawat:

Oh man I should be reading Zoro Piece.

Like... it was pretty obvious when Oda was cycling through power ups within the same arc that despite years of planning, Oda was quite perplexed. In the end he chose, "Kaido gets punched into lava and dies." I don't know who is pleased by that unless it's just to spite people who wanted an ending they don't like, lol

I was the biggest Sanji fanboy back then and this changed my perspective on everything, even I felt crazy when people mocked them because this was definitely not a crazy expectation to have, you mean to tell me that zoro the samurai killing the dragon is zoro piece?

I grew up in the 90s when we would get shitty videogame movies and they'd throw fans the crummiest little bones. Like the king in Mario becomes this fuckin gross glob of drippy fungus and they're like, "hey there's your toadstool."

It happened in retrospect for me when people were mentioning how that dumb attack from King was dragon shaped.

As far as Sanji goes, funny enough I think he's been great time skip. Like he teeters the edge between being an intentionally written Yamcha and a guy rewarded for having immense heart by getting his big upgrade. Even though it's a little dumb how his story revolves around not being what he truly is and so making him a true Vinsmoke sort of defeats the point, it also adds a bittersweet layer with his fear in becoming not only what he despised but also what his mom killed herself to prevent.

They even named the monster ova after zoro's attack, if that's not mocking the fans I don't know what it is

BM not fighting with her full combat potential. She was not only nerfed by plot, facing non-ACoC users, but also by the stage which couldn't contain any of her big moves like Giant Sun Prometheus or Fulgora.

Gear 5 in general. What made One Piece great was climatic moments being serious and emotional but Goofy's laughing and stupid deflating for food gags just takes away any tension. Egghead would be 1000x better without him.

Oda's writing, treatment of Big Mom and wasting her potential, alongside her daughters such as Smoothie and Compote is what made finally give up on him when it comes his writing and treatment of female characters.

Such a disgusting waste when he could have done so much and many better things with them.
