They looked insanely great compared to Crydo and Memes performances for 6-7 years who showed weakness after weakness - Big Mom's entire existence is a weakness.
In comparison Admirals always performed composed and clean. Thats why Yonkotards barely have any material and jump on ridiculous stuff to back up their bias, more often way too early (like Fujitora being injured post reverie and later we find out it actually happened as he fought Greenbull).

Kuzan was about to kill him and his entire crew which made Blackbeard sweat in fear and asking him to join him instead so that he can pursue his own personal goals the best and easiest way - he literally convinced someone who clearly seemed superior to him to join his power as an ally.
In fact most of Blackbeards crew members joined him as "allies" and not as inferiors - remember why Shiryu joined Teach?
