You just have to remember that the One Piece fan base has the memory of a fly and they think that the time between chapters factors into how good or bad the pacing is. They always hate the current arc. It happens literally every time. Once we're on the next arc they'll all like Wano and forget they ever hated it.
"Elbaf sucks! WCI was better!"

"Fuck Laugh Tale! Its too long!"

Yeah, Usually when fans re-watched or reread they usually get a better appreciation what arc was trying to do. When fans read weekly they don’t particularly enjoy the arc they do have complaints about it.

Am I the only one who likes the new move Oda uses, instead of the old formulaic sequences?

- Oh, Luffy invites Jinbe and he accepts! Wait, he'll be absent for one arc, fighting together on the arc after that, and finally group up in the current arc? Yeah, unique plotline, something fresh.

- Hmm, this Carrot sneaks into the ship ala Robin? Her dreams & mentor related flashback is happening in the present time? Nice, something new.

- Luffy's in Wano & meet the helpful loli of the arc! She wears the straw hat like nami & robin! But she's a child.. Huh, she can fight with her beasts? Will she join? Or not? Nice mystery Oda

- We're midway through Wano arc & final fight soon, looks like it's either carrot & tama, depends on who gets fight and foc.. Yamato enters! Wow, so sudden! And she asked to join/related to ace/waiting for luffy/whatever! Good surprise

What I'm trying to say, Oda probably uses/finds some new formats/sequences, to keep the mystery fresh. Jinbe hasn't join, he ded? Carrot no dreams/flashback, just a side char? Yamato appears too sudden, a red herring? Etc

Yamato being a red herring makes zero sense at this point. Too important to multiple characters to actually be one, and she stands out way more than carrot virtually ever has.

And that's only going to get more apparent when she actually starts fighting considering her hidden zoan

Carrot is the biggest red herring for a next SH since Pauly and Kokoro, even bigger than Rebecca... Almost everyone was convinced (and there are still a lot convinced to this date) that she'll be joining the crew...

I’ll admit, I was one of those people that thought that Rebecca was gonna join the crew back in the day.
:laughmoji:

But in my defense, I had just gotten into One Piece and didn’t initially see why she was a terrible choice.

Imagine the SHs having a lookout like this one:

I was pertaining to Carrot with that line...

She is... She's just a bit better than Tama...

Honestly Oda could introduce a new SH 20 chapters before Laugh Tale and I wouldn't be surprised, people put too much stock in how late it might be or how it wouldn't work or make sense but that doesn't seem to be something that concerns him, even if crew members miss ''key'' moments or most of the journey they will still be considered proper crew once they join, Chopper isn't a lesser SH despite not being there during the dreams scene before Reverse Mountain any more than Brook is a lesser SH for not being part of Enies Lobby. I realize readers might see them as lacking or too late regardless but it's never the ''deal breaker'' people think it is.
truth, once a character joins, Oda will make it make sense somehow, what he's gonna write will make any irrelevant things relevant

yasss it's still wide, the formula of potentially new members is so different from what we got before, it might not be as predictable as you think it is (either the one who will most likely to join and most likely NOT to join). don't hate too much of any of the candidates because what's happening in the future might change everything. I just can see both of these characters' haters will get "told you" moments to themselves later. #yamato4nakama #carrot4nakama #kaido4nakama

Rebecca could have been a good SH member, but Oda went with more of a arc character with her. Which I think was fine too. Maybe its good, I wouldn't want to see a 16 year old being used for Fan service for rest of the series. Already disappointed on how Nami is being used for that.

I prefer Sulong Pedro as Lookout than Carrot. He would have destroyed the genie rather than avoiding its attack.
Can't say anything about something we have yet to see (Sulong Pedro)... But I agree that base Pedro would've clashed well with that genie... But the biggest issue there is that Carrot, the "most fit" lookout by the Carrot4Nakama fans, failed to see it coming to the point where she can't even dodge it... If Sanji wasn't there, I think she's with Pedro now... I think even Usopp or Chopper can notice that genie coming before it can get close to the ship if they are the assigned lookout... Especially Usopp, who even noticed "hidden" guys on Onigashima entrance...

From there you can see the problems that Carrot can contribute... In that arc alone, she was saved by Sanji and Brook from death... And she can't even sense the danger that Pedro sensed with Pudding... What else can she contribute aside from being a burden (especially to Sanji)? She has more lowlights than highlights since her intro (like 10:1 ratio)...

I think Kyros could've been a better choice...
