I don’t think it’s a coincidence Zoro made allies with a shapeshifting fox nor is it that his “interest” in Hiyori is best known for her fox mask. Combine this with the fox fire style he picked up, and Oda introduced the nine tailed fox as an Inu Inu no Mi, the resemblance is there imo.

I think both getting their individual fights is the best case scenario which is what happened already in ch 1025
