Were Kuzan, Akainu or Kizaru de-hyped when they capitalised on their opportunities to take out the WB pirates? It's a war, only a fool would stop and wait for the opponent to be ready to fight again. This was the only way Oda could write Past Kaido defeating Oden without revealing his hidden abilities that he's saving for the current arc.
Kaido was rivalling the likes of Moriah 3 years prior to the battle, I expected him to be much weaker. But this is a Kaido before the suicidal tendencies, and there's no mention of any title so we know that Kaido grew further after this battle as he went on to become known as the WSC due to other events, as no one knows about events that occur in Wano.
So it changes nothing in my mind, and I've always felt Dragon Kaido was useless 1v1 anyway. All it shows is that Base Kaido's AP is beyond ridiculous as even Oden was damn near one-shotted 20 years ago. It's to the point where I hope it's not randomly nerfed during the battle with the SHs. But after seeing Current Kaido clash with BM for days, it was that that confirmed to me that he's pretty much on-par with the other top-tiers anyway, with at best a very small difference in strength.
