Time for Coby wankers to take a look at the cold, hard truth.
Can you imagine Garp bowing down to Rayleigh & Roger and saying that it'd be impossible to walk their paths?
Can you imagine Garp reading about Roger in the newspapers & shivering with tears in his eyes & snot in his nose about how much Roger has grown?
Can you imagine Garp sitting around with a couple of princesses and talking about how he likes/fanboys over Roger?
Being called the new "Hero", having good CoO, Rokushiki is all nice & dandy; Coby is someone who's going to become a future Admiral for damn sure, but that's all he'll be - a weak admiral in a weak, peaceful era.
Expecting him to fight Luffy to the death at EoS, to the point where they "almost killed each other dozens of times" is pure nonsense.
Expecting him to be stronger than even EoS Sanji (who's damn near guaranteed to beat an Admiral) is also nonsense.
Coby isn't a "rival" of Luffy's like Kid or Law, he's a fanboy.
Coby might as well join Luffy's harem of princesses given he was the first "damsel in distress" who was saved by Rupee-chin.

ACoC isn't really that special, it doesn't automatically guarantee a win. It's certainly the best tool you can have against defense junkies like Crydo and King, especially since they're so confident in their abilities that they were rendered incompetent fighters.
Smoker is very tricky with his logia powers, he will require some haki powerups which are easy to asspull by Oda, and maybe a new jitte by Vegapunk, potentially awakening. But I'm willing to bet that Smoker will restrain Luffy with seastone at least for a minute this arc. Remember seastone weaken even haki as we've seen in Udon with Luffy (at least for DF users)

Coby at the end of Enies lobby arc was perfectly fine. He evolved from the chubby cabin boy scared of Alvida to a promising, hard working, marine officer who recognized himself he had an almost impossible mission to equal Luffy and Zoro.
Now Oda instead of making him a new Garp he evolved him in another fanboy of Luffy. This is just a collateral of Luffy becoming Jesus, Law and Kidd are pretty much the same, it is just that Oda with them had at least the pity to not make them blatant cheerleaders of Luffy (like Coby) but tsundere ones. Law has a life debt with Luffy and Kidd has a debt with him as well for the whole Killer/Kamazou stuff. Also they both had to fight BM in a fight which was given not much importance while Luffy "alone" defeated Kaido in a never ending asspu.. fight (which was the focus point of the arc, not for nothing Wano sucked).

Luffy went from Kat level to Kaido level in like a couple weeks.
Of course the one who has the fastest growth rate in the series will catch up, idk about rival since he's joyboy. still stronger then zoro, kidd>luffy has more of a chance then zoro and luffy being on the same level.

The guy who trembles at the thought of even following up in Zoro's footsteps and looks up to him like a hero ain't surpassing him. Specially as he's far, far less relevant of a character. Side among side characters. He isn't even surpassing Sanji.
