Both were insanly good arcs. But alabasta hit's different.

Plus the anime made it so much better thanks to this, we've never had anything like this again unfortunately:

Someone even made a Doflamingo version as we never got it: again with him despite it being the perfect parallel and opporunity for it! I mean its literally called "New World Symphony" too ffs!:
I remember someone saying it should return for Kaido at least but I don't think it will sadly.
I agree heavily with what you said there too. Even Piratefolk was saying Crocodile was much better written than Kaido despite the lack of flashback and such. Can't decide between him and Doflamingo but I much prefer Crocs arc, design, powers, charisma and such. Both he and Doffy are amazing though. Lmao I typed her for Croc. #Crocomom. Both of them have such great VAs too.
Smoker was glorious in that arc, along with Ace, before Oda dropped the ball hard with both of them. I'm very worried for the lack of Smoker in the manga currently too.
