See this is going to likely be the explanation. That whitebeard knew but never told his crew so he let the last 20 years happen because of prophecies

This just hurts me at my core because this random plot element has usurped all character from any body

Neither any of the old whitebeard pirates or izo happened to ever hear any of Ace's stories and Ace never heard about izo being from Wano.

Just nobody ever talked. Ace never even asked who the former second division commander was.

What would Ace talk to Izo about? Again, he saw only a small portion of Wano. What could he have ever talked about to Izo that would be of any significance?

If Ace would talk to Little Oars Junior about Wano due to something as insignificant as a hat, why would he never mention it to Izo?

Regarding Izo, not necessarily. When has any Straw Hat expresses desire to go back to their home? When have the ever really discussed in detail their past, unless it was absolutely relevant?

So Izo is the sort of person that joins a crew that is all about family but does not give two shits over his sibling back in Wano? For over two decades? He never contacts them or finds the lack of contact suspicious when Oden should have opened the border over a decade ago?

Also, are the Whitebeard crew so utterly secretive of their own members, despite being family, that they never utter a single word of their past lives? What kind of family distrusts each other that much? Lel.

On Whitebeard, nothing indicates that he didn’t act. Knowing exactly what is happening in Wano isn’t a requirement for that. I was just telling somebody in the spoiler thread that Kaido owes Big Mom a life debt. How many things exist in this world that would require Kaido to have his life saved to an extent that he would owe someone a life debt? The likeliest scenario is that Kaido killed Oden and Whitebeard found out, but was discussed from killing him by Big Mom, allowing him to keep his reign over Wano. Further than that, they closed off information leaking out of Wano and exact detail of the situation was never acquired by Whitebeard. Both can be true.

So the entire World Government is fair game when they kidnap Ace despite Whitebeard’s crippling health condition but Kaido and Linlin, both of whom are individuals that Whitebeard should find abhorrent, are so much of a problem for Whitebeard in his prime that he gives up?

Ace probably knew that Kaido was in charge there, but also probably didn’t know the extent. The villagers probably never told him the extent either. They were only there for a few days.

What extant? Kaido either is in charge and purposefully starving the local populace or he is not. Lel.

There are millions of blonde people in the world. Hair color has no bearing on it. The hat is the only thing that should had reminded him of Sabo, but again, as far as Ace is concerned, Sabo died with a big explosion. There was never a reason to think that Sabo would survive, let alone become a famous and powerful Revolutionary.

Sabo thing is not PIS-free, but it is much more acceptable than WB not knowing about Wano.

Shanks became a yonko after kaido, no way he could destroy him/them. If anything he would have a harder time as he was still gaining recognition but thats not the topic anyways. The problem is why shanks didnt do anything nor wb.

I think this is what should’ve happened instead of having Kaido get humiliated by Oden.

Having Whitebeard defeat Kaido in a flashback would’ve stressed the difference between the Yonko and the Pirate King, and would’ve created actual legitimate hype to see Kaido defeated a second time by luffy. It would also be consistent to Whitebeard’s character, to attack anyone who messes with his crew.

Instead, we got the vaguely powerful oden humiliating Kaido and de-hyping him as a Wano villain while making Whitebeard look like an inconsistent retard for literally not even checking on Oden for 20 years.

Say what you will about whole cake, the first half was solid and the ending was good. This trainwreck has been ongoing throughout the arc hahahaha. Kaido himself has been a disappointement. We barely see the dude nor get any characterization from him. Its like hes just, there. This feels more like orochi is the main villain than kaido by a long long shot.

This would require a level of pettiness that Whitebeard simply does not possess.

Squardo outright betrayed Whitebeard and stabbed him through the torso with a sword. In return, Whitebeard gave him a hug and forgiveness on the spot.

For Whitebeard to refuse to care for Oden for 20+ years simply because Oden decided to hitch a ride with Roger for a while, would be a crippling character contradiction.

I don't think it's out of character assuming that Roger told Whitebeard about Oden. Which is a big assumption that we need to have told.

Whitebeard and Oden was more of an equal relationship than Whitebeard and Squard, or the rest of his crew. Brothers, not father and son, with Whitebeard talking about how Oden was a wildman that wouldn't be comfortable under another's control and all that.

So I can square up the idea that Whitebeard was genuinely hurt by Oden leaving but figured "that's just what he's like", in the conversation with Roger has it brought up that Oden is going to open the borders but that it'll take years based on what they learned from Laugh Tale, and Whitebeard then thinking "well I'll leave that ungrateful shit Oden to his business then we'll see each other again then."

But it is something we need to see.

It's the Ace/Izo thing I just can't square up. Because that requires a shocking leap in logic so far of him just... never mentioning the nation was being starved? Not just Ace, but the entirety of his crew?

So yeah, that's where Oda really needs some sort of explanation for Whitebeard's inaction. I'd even buy that Whitebeard and Kaido also were "brothers" during their time on Rocks crew and that Whitebeard was torn between the two because of it- I don't think it would be very good, but I could at least accept it as an explanation.

I still stand by the fact that kaido then wasnt as strong as kaido now, and he was an arrogant cunt too. Which cost him since oden sliced him in dragon form and wounded him heavily. Why he didnt just fight oden in human form like he did back in the castle is beyond my comprehension as they seemed pretty evenly matched. I guess he really wanted to show off his big dragon.
