No matter how you look at it, Yamato has to leave wano. We saw what the people of wano did to the kurozumi family. She would 100% be hunted to death if she stayed in wano post- Kaido.

Furthermore, with her connections to Oden and the whole handcuffs plot device, leaving wano seems like an integral part of her character.

So either she leaves with Luffy or she leaves with someone else. And I for one cannot see who else she could leave with. Her being an Oden fangirl already makes her a prime candidate for a straw hat.

as for her dream and role, that will come later. If we don't see much, then I guess we can rule her out. But there is too much we don't know about her for now to say she won't join.

If I were to guess, I would say that Momonosuke joins the crew with Carrot and yamato coming along as his retainers. Momonosuke would be the cabin boy. I think this is likely as momonosuke's story doesn't seem to just end in wano. He has a special power that allows him to control zunisha, be that an ancient weapon or something else, it will be of huge significance to the end of the story. And with him being Oden's son and all, it just doesn't make sense for him to stay on wano the rest of luffy's journey, especially when he has already come so far.

Momo even has a relationship with zoro, imo similar to shanks and rayleigh. I can see Hiyori becoming the shogun/empress of wano post-kaido with momonosuke sailing off with Luffy after reading his father's journal.

this would also fulfill carrot's role. imo she also can't just disappear after wano, as Oda already spent so much time establishing her relationship with the crew.

In any case, I see more arguments for Yamato joining than not.
Momo is to young and Luffy has no business baby sitting Momo. Luffy is going to fighting against Blackbeards crew.

Newsflash - we don’t need every Straw Hat to fill a specific position for their inclusion in the crew to be justified. Zoro serves no concrete purpose on the ship, Robin’s title of archaeologist is virtually worthless except when they find a Poneglyph, and Brook the living Afro skeleton would have been Luffy’s friend even if he couldn’t carry a tune. Everyone who wants Carrot only says she could be a lookout, which is about as useless as it gets. Yamato can join in whatever fucking capacity and it wouldn’t matter a lick either way; she wants to leave Wano, she wants to join Luffy specifically, and you have to work harder to argue AGAINST her at this point.

I hope so. I mean it's not like Oda is using the other members to their full potential, but I really like having characters join. Two in one arc would be great.

I'll also be happy to see Bart, Cavendish, Sai, Orlumbus, and Ideo show up again. If Yamato became a temporary ally like Law or one of them, I'd still like it.

The Fleets fine as it is. Enough people are unofficial Strawhat allies that I don't really see any need for us to go back and add them. Hajrudin and Ideo can recruit some more to round the numbers up to 5656 and that's good to go.

And narratively I just think it'll be weird to have another person join. We had the big dramatic scene of the seven of them pledging themselves to Luffy and drinking the sake cups. Other characters then jumping in later and doing the exact same thing just seems odd to me. The seven seem very much a solid group linked by a single event, someone else coming in doesn't really fit for me.

Course, Bellamy is the exception, but I still don't seed him being an official fleet member

I personally wants Yamato to join but at this point I doubt it honestly:kayneshrug:Because Yamato's dream is to open Wano's border so she probably have to stay in Wano to protect it along with Momo, Hiyori and the Scabbards. That's my opinion:kata:Oh and you are not a dick btw @Jew D. Boy
Have you read this week’s chapter, Goat? If not...

SHE FUCKING SAYS SHE WAS *SPECIFICALLY* WAITING FOR LUFFY TO ARRIVE SO SHE COULD TRAVEL WITH HIM, HOW IS THIS STILL UP FOR DEBATE

This, she's a lot better than Carrot.

@Jew D. Boy my hang ups:
  • She's a Nami clone.
    • This would be more notable if she gets extended panel time and shows up with Nami.
  • She appears to be very powerful (maybe too powerful. Would Oda let someone stronger than Sanji or Jinbe join)?
I don't see how she is a nami clone. Her personality and goals are nothing like nami. Nami was hiding from fodder whereas Yamato casually 1 shot a tobi roppo.

even appearance wise, she's like twice as tall as nami, has horns, has a completely different outfit, and her hair is rectangular like kaido's. They even have different faces when Oda drew her face up close in the previous chapter.

as for her being too powerful, I don't think sanji's role in the crew, as far as strength goes, is really that important. He is a fan favorite so as long as he remains a top fighter, it shouldn't be an issue. I see the lineup post wano being:
  1. Luffy
  2. Zoro
  3. Yamato
  4. Sanji
  5. Jinbe
which would be fine, honestly.

Just switch Yamato and Sanji and there you go:goyea:

Imo i would've liked for her/him to join law but if translation is even somewhat accurate then she specifically asked to join. Given luffy loves to invite people he likes and how she fits the crews quirkiness I'd say she'll join.
I think some people are hung up on the fact that Luffy hasn’t asked her to join because it’s not part of some imagined pattern they think Oda’s established, but she’s still showing a very strong interest in joining a captain who’s accepted pretty much every applicant without thinking about it too hard (or at all), and you hit the nail on the head with the quick quirkiness she’s shown. The stars haven’t aligned for a new Straw Hat like this since Jinbe in Fishman Island, although I expect she’ll be an official member by the time they’re ready to leave Wano.

Which is funny because he didn't ask Robin or Franky to join at all. Yep, people definitely have weird pre-established assumptions about how Oda can have people join

Yea its not some set way you have to join the sh's. Hell brook mid song just asked to join and boom he was a sh. But im interested to see what her role on the crew would be.

I wrote this in the chapter discussion thread in response to someone who believes in the pattern, feel it’s worth having in this thread as well:
Robin forced her way onto the crew after Alabasta, Brook accepted Luffy’s first request at the beginning of Thriller Bark before asking for help with his shadow, Sanji/Chopper/Franky all had to be coerced rather than asking after a first refusal, Jinbe didn’t reject the proposal but asked Luffy to wait until shit with Big Mom was resolved. There’s no pattern, bro, it’s all shared headcanon.
