Unfortunately, the world doesn't work like that. Too many people sympathise with criminals these days. If I beat up a man for trying to rape a woman, I do not doubt that I'd be dragged through the court of public opinion as a monster, especially if the criminal had any identifiable "protected" characteristics.

That's why I'm saying BECOME the criminal.

Unfortunately, people do not empathise with the defender in these situations a lot of the time.

The consensus nowadays is that using violence to defend against violence makes you just as bad as the attacker. They expect us to be like the guy from Nazareth and show the other cheek.

It's why I believe all men should learn how to fight. I think there are so many cowardly males now who would just let a woman be assaulted and watch on without getting involved.

Agreed 100%. People confuse weakness with being good. Most people don't do shit, cause they are too afraid and weak to do anything. Good people are strong. An mma fighter/military guy that is a gentleman is real good guy.

Exactly, you need the proper means to choose doing good or bad. Weakness makes you harmless and that does not equal to being good. We have a good example of such individual here in this thread.

Down here in Brazil, we had pretty loose gun laws and crime was not that big of a deal. Now we have strict guns laws and crime doesn't stop increasing. What happened is that we are ruled by politicians that enable criminals. Gun control is a classic authoritarian regime move.

In the U.S., what keeps the Govenrment from utilizing the military on the people is Posse Comitatus, a federal law that prevents miliary from enforcing state laws. The work around for this is de-arming the population, and funding the police force to resemble the military. It's a slowly growing into a police state.

Reminds me of something my mum told me like 14 years ago.

She said: "There is more coverage of pedos and kidnappers these days, but when I was young, it was a lot more prevalent. Parents who are keeping their kids indoors in fear of the 'rising crime rate' are the same ones who grew up with their nana telling them to avoid the nonce down the street."

It's a different country, but I think this is probably true with gun crime as well. The free-access we have to information now as opposed to the past means any incident will be brought to the attention of the public. However, it's possible that incidents of gun crime were more prevalent in the past, it's just we had no means of learning about them.

The media makes money off tragedy and controversy. What's juicier than a story of a teen shooting up a school, or a mentally ill person shooting up a parade? All it does it make the anxious folk of the world feel they are living in the darkest period of history. They demand ridiculous changes, not realising that crime has and always will exist.

We cannot complete erase the circumstances that breed criminality. Depriving people of guns just makes them helpless, be it against their would-be attackers, or their own government.

Trying to ban guns saying it's the problem is taken responsibility away from the individual. A country in Europe once banned pocket knives and it did nothing to reduce stabbings cause people started using kitchen knives instead.

With guns, people will always get them illegally no matter what, so banning guns just make those who obey the law more vulnerable.

Funnily enough, most mass shootings and gun violence happens in blue states with a notable poverty rates. California had the most mass shootings in 2023. Its the blue states that mostly scream for gun banning and blame red states which is ironic. Increase those regulations.

Ban guns, and people will simply use other weapons. Ban guns, and the people are more vulnerable to an authoritarian state as mentioned above.

Can you share your knowledge about the crazy laws in SK? My mother-in-law lives there, and my wife has mentioned wanting us to move there one day (it's one of the main reasons I'm learning Korean). Would be good to know these things.

Perhaps, but it could mean she's gotten worse. Haven't seen anything from the podcast/episodes for the past 4 months. But she had some banger videos. The humidifier deaths, the Korean shopping mall one, the ferry disaster, the street crush.... and of course, some of the serial killing ones.
