I do see them closer in strength and feel that the gap between them would keep on reducing as we will approach EoS
However, I feel if Oda draws them fighting then it would end up in stalemate.

You're noticeably a Kitetsu wanker here, so I wanted to ask, have you ever heard of the Sukiyaki=Tengu theory? If you do subscribe to that theory, it has some really interesting implications to the relevance of Nidai and Shodai in the story.
