I interpreted it as Oda needs to get a bit more creative when it comes to having Luffy win. It will definitely be a punch, or many punches, but its "how" he does it that will be important.

The "Roc"/Big Bird series of moves are now the next avenue for Luffy and his movement. We'll get a few chapters of that followed by the application with G4 or something I'm sure (new form or not). Then maybe G5. Awakening sounds like the last avenue Oda will go with Luffy, so I doubt we'll see that here

it still a punch, it is exaclty what Oda didnt want: Luffy's punch is so strong that aint enough to take down Kaido, and look now they laughing each other after a punch.
Cringe as fuck.

Oda invented COC coating for this
well that mean Zoro which unluck advcoc with Kaido will play a role too

Quite clearly referring to CoC coating.
well Zoro will play a role too, cuz both Zoro&Luffy locked in the same chapter this power against Kaido.

This.

Luffy was referring to Dressrosa Luffy when he said "Luffy can't defeat such a strong character yet"

And it was early into WCI when he said he still had to think about how Luffy was gonna pull it off.
If that the case, why did Oda decide to give in the same chapter the same power to defeat kaido for Luffy and Zoro?
I see a lot people saying Zoro is done after King....:suresure:

I don't care at all about how Luffy should defeat Kaido. I'm fine by simply having logic on it. Stronger punches without Luffy getting knocked out, one-shotted, two-shotted would be great. I can't stand Luffy getting beat up and coming back stronger while villains can only be beat up once.

This. If Oda makes Villian grows as well (not just Luffy and Co), it will be very interesting.

That's why AdvCoA and AdvCoC were invented? Luffy wouldn't be able to beat Kaido just from having strong punch alone. Thus Oda's statement is still very much true.

If your expectations were something else then how else was Luffy supposed to beat Kaido?
I expected the strawhats vs kaido+ luffy's awakening

Luffy turning the ground into rubber to bounce back and hit kaido with attacks harder than the ones he sent luffy flying with would've been perfect

It's not just a punch, it's the smartest strategy he could come up with and it would've been poetic

He turns his ability to get his ass royally whooped by kaido into his strength and eventually defeats him
