People overhype this manga, many here i believe have high expectations how wano will end.

If you expect tolkein level of storyline you are setting yourself for big disappointment. One piece at heart is shounen manga . Oda stopped using logic long time back he realised if toriyama can asspull things in his manga he can remove limitation as well.

If Oda was writing a quarter as well as Tolkien no one would be complaining.

People still defend this shit are being stupid.

Masquerading a punch with new power ups still makes it a punch.
You misunderstand the quote, along with many of the sussy bakas in the thread.
The point was Oda could not just have Luffy punch harder and narratively sweep it under the rug as Luffy just trying harder, he emphasised 3 new powers for Luffy of:
internal destruction ryuo which means not only he doesn't need to touch his enemies if they have passive damage defense like fire/ice/lava but also fries the organs of those he hits,
adv CoC that "only the strongest have" putting the potency of his blows on par with Roger, considering he is a CoC specialist
awakening to dramatically increase the scale of the attack that Luffy would be able to deliver.

This is not "just punching harder" but explaining how he can, within the universes long pre-established power systems deliver that stronger punch.

Becoming a coc specialist at that short of a time....

Sussy bakas? Lol where do you here that

is the punch the only reason Kaido will lose? Oda never said that Kaido won't be defeated by a punch

I'm fairly I understand the quote perfectly since it's not really that hard for anyone to understand. Neither of you, as well as others, seem to get the point of why it's still a fuck-up and your responses are pretty evident of that, so I'll elaborate whilst still hoping that this isn't the end of the battle.

1. It's a statement he never needed to make in the 1st damn place since the result is the same.

2. The result itself is painfully uncreative. Like I know I should expect repetitive & unoriginal outcomes but come on...

So let's expand a bit here.

1. It's Oda fault for promising something he never needed to promise. Luffy vs Kaido has long since been a disappointment on it's own for multiple reasons, but when you add to this statement that he made six years ago, no wonder he's getting backlash when he essentially did was hype up a terrible fight even further than necessary. It's bad enough that this arc has been long since hyped for about a decade now, taking it a step further isn't going to do it any favors.

2. Thanks to previous chapters, now there's no other ways that Luffy could defeat Kaido without punching (or kicking, headbutting, or any other kind of lame direct physical attack). Oda already had the tools that since he spent this whole arc & timeskip making for Luffy to succeed. So instead of literally anything else better, Oda set himself up for this fuck-up. And the G5 + Awakening reveal makes it even worse. The Nika reveal makes the claim that Luffy's fruit is supposed to be the most ridiculous fruits ever that is only limited by its user's imagination, and since this is the case Oda COULD HAVE used any method for Luffy to defeat Kaido. I mean he grabbed fucken Lightning not too long ago.

And a lot of the defenses (like yours) just come off as cope and some degree of mental gymnastics for what he meant. A lot of them are just pre-emptive excuses just in case Oda fails to deliver his promise.

The simplest way to interpret Oda's message is he didn't want for the defeat to involve a punch, and quite literally said his audience wouldn't be satisfied with it. I'll say it again - Masquerading it with new power ups still makes it a punch, which is why a portion of fans are not satisfied with it. Alright, Oda didn't really deliver with his original statement. I won't crucify him but I'm still going to criticize him for not figuring out a more creative way to end this fight, like the way Big Mom was taken out by Kid and Law. Kaido and Luffy are practically just fist fighting, which is the most boring way for this fight to conclude. Luffy is not a martial artist or athlete that has to obey the rules. Luffy's is a pirate and not only that, he also has the most broken DF that can be use anyway he want.

Literally misunderstanding a shonen with target age 12 years old.

You should understand that writing more doesn't make your point better.
Luffy has NEVER won by not winning in Close Combat.
Buggy, Krieg,Crocodile, Bellamy, Wapol, Enel, [..] were ALL beaten by punches.
Luffy developed 3 different power ups to defeat Kaido, he literally did not JUST "punched harder".
The problem is writing is how he got the power up, not the punching hard, and you should realise that.

Buddy, you dismissing my points doesn't Not make my point better, especially when I'm just trying to elaborate on the problem.
No one is arguing that Luffy has/hasn't fought & won in CC, the issue is that Oda hyped up an already hyped-up fight even further with by setting up an idiotic expectation when he knows he didn't have to. (Which isn't the 1st time, people are still holding him to his word on the Final War making Marineford look cute by comparison) and that the fight itself was terribly handled, underwhelming and a clear case of Oda failing to find a solution to a problem HE created:gokulaugh:

Dress it up with as many excuses you want. At the end of the day Luffy has a fruit that allows to be the most creative fighter in the series thanks to the G5 retcon changing it's description, and like I said before, Luffy grabbed fucking Lightning with his bare hands so miss me with that CC excuse lol.

Luffy could have gotten every power-up under the sun in this arc, it doesn't change a damn thing if Oda is still going to end the fight with... a punch.

is the punch the only reason Kaido will lose? Oda never said that Kaido won't be defeated by a punch
They are misquoting Oda and claiming he never said a punch will finish him. When in reality what he said was that Luffy wouldn't beat Kaido because his punch was so strong. He beat Kaido because he gained mastery over 2 types of Haki that allow him to hurt Kaido. This has nothing to do with a stronger punch.

I've even heard Brago (Youtuber) say this numerous times. I'm like dude are you at all paying attention to what Oda has been focusing on these past 4 years? What has Luffy been struggling to do this whole time? People have been reading and regurgitating this quote every single the time.
