I really love how Yamato cutting her ties with Kaido parallels Jimbe cutting his ties with Linlin.

Jimbe and Linlin:

Yamato and Kaido:

The progression of events is very similar:
  • Both of them declare their intentions to leave to they Yonkou patrons.
    • Jimbe says he wishes to leave and join the Strawhat crew.
    • Yamato says she's come to free herself of the bond that chains her.
      • She later says that she'll set sail with Luffy.
  • The Yonkou rejects their stated intentions and insists that they stay.
    • Linlin tells Jimbe to "pay the proper price".
    • Kaido tells Yamato to accept her faith and become Shogun.
  • The Yonkou attacks them:
    • Linlin tries to steal Jimbe's lifespan.
    • Kaido attacks Yamato with an Advanced Haoshoku attack.
  • They resist the attack.
    • Jimbe's lifespan isn't stolen because he doesn't fear Linlin.
    • Yamato matches Kaido's Advanced Haoshoku with her own.
  • They reaffirm their commitment to Luffy and how it drives them:
    • Jimbe declares that Luffy is the future Pirate King and as one who wishes to be his crewmate, he cannot tremble before a mere Emperor.
    • Yamato declares that Luffy is the man Kozuki Oden has been waiting for and that she will hold off Kaido until he gets back.

It's a very strong and deliberate parallel.

In response to the post above, the parallel isn't Jinbe and Yamato.

East Blue
1. Zoro
2. Nami
3. Usopp
4. Sanji

Grand Line
1. Chopper
2. Robin
3. Franky
4. Brooke

Zoro-Chopper-Jinbe
Nami-Robin-Yamato(?)
Usopp-Franky
Sanji-Brooke

Zoro, Chopper and Jinbe parallel each other and Zoro foreshadowed them both. Nami foreshadowed and paralleled Robin. Yamato has to parallel Nami and Robin along with being foreshadowed.

°Nami and Robin lived as prisoners even in their own homes. Nami was forced to work for Arlong as too weak to resist. Robin was too weak to resist the WG and literally became a cuffed prisoner; the main motive of Enies Lobby was to find the keys to Robin's cuffs. Yamato was literally introduced as a cuffed prisoner to someone more powerful than her.

°Nami was saved by a marine(Bellemere) and later, a marine(Captain Nezuki was the reason Arlong remained in power). Robin was saved by a Marine(Saul and Aokiji) and later had her home destroyed by the marines. Yamato has nothing to do with marines but its still similar how she has enemy pirates instead of marines.

°Nami and Robin's arcs involved a strict time limit scenario. With Nami, Luffy had to be saved before he drowned(with people holding off Arlong) so he can fight Arlong again. Robin had to be saved before she went to the gates of justice. In Wano, Kaido has to be beaten before Onigashima lands on the capital, Luffy needs to be saved before he drowns and Yamato is holding off Kaido until Luffy comes back.

°For Nami, Robin and Yamato, their arcs contain a weak scumbag(Nezuki, Spandam and Orochi, all being animals btw) backing a man animalistic physical powerhouse who is also the strongest antagonist in Arlong, Lucci and Kaido.

°Nami foreshadowed Robin by wearing her Alabasta outfit in Loguetown. Yamato foreshadowing? Well Momo called Nami a princess and Yamato is the child of a king along being a reference to princesses in old Japanese tales.

Because every Strawhat has a role. Yanato won’t be any different.
:kaidowhat:
Poneglyph reader?

Oden and ace was 2nd commander on WB ship. Not really a role but more like a status
Jinbe is pretty much forced to be a helmsman out of nowhere. Obviously yamato will have some kind of role added to her profile
And post TS we rarely ever focused on their jobs in the crew.

When was the last time Sanji cooked something on thousand sunny?
When was the las time we saw Nami draw maps or navigate?
And then repeat this for every SH

Jobs of SH are sidelined ever since post TS. Yamato not having a job wouldn't be that noticeable anyway other than pleasing OCD of people
