It's not the same thing. Roger beat no one to becoming pirate king.
Going to raftel makes luffy king. Shanks is a swordsman mihawks vc outright says he's looking for the day a challenger (zoro) surpasses shanks. Zoro has to surpass shanks to reach the level required to fight mihawk.

yet we got to kaido and we see how far he is from him
much less the pirate king which has the task of not only tupling the pirate world but also the world government. roger failed to do that.

For someone who is not far behind admirals/yonko (I think he gives them high diff) and whose presence was said to be comparable to Shanks, 1.4/1.5 is...meh.

I doubt Luffy would be given the 5th emperor epithet if there were a currently operating commander with a bounty higher than him. Thus I think Beckman's bounty is probably 1.4-1.5 billion. Rayleigh and Oden will definitely be higher tho.

yeah one important distinction is brannew said high average bounty
its possible all three shanks commanders have above 1.2 but still less than 1.5

Obviously, they knew/know the entire history of the world, that by itself is worth 1bill + both of them were part of Roger's crew, so that also adds to their overall bounty, and finally Oden mid diffed Kaido.

We all know how Shonen work, one day Luffy is not close to beating someone and 2 weeks later he can kick his ass. So Luffy not being close to Kaido now doesn't really mean something.

Yeah we all know Luffy will even surpass what ROger accomplished and will take down the WG/Imu. Luffy will be THE ONE, and will surpass everyone. At that point Luffy real goal is being the new Joyboy, being "only" Pk is trivialized for a part.

My point was saying that Shanks was indeed a benchmark. Luffy has multiple ones and Shanks is one of them.

And we still don't know anything about Shanks, his goal, what he wants etc. Shanks doesn't want to be PK so yeah Luffy vs Shanks for PK title won't happen, so Mihawk/Zoro relationship is quite different than Shanks/Luffy relationship.

And PK title is harder to achieve than WSS.

Luffy needs to equal Roger acheivement to be PK, and needs to surpass him to save the world after that.
