A lot of people just see the military occupation on the news and assume that india is unequivocally the bad guys. irl, literally every single person living in kashmir had and still has the option to move to Pakistan.
The fact is, India isn't a nation state; rather, it is the union of several states, similar to america. And just like america in the civil war, the existence of secessionist movements are a threat to the union. If Kashmir breaks off, who's to prevent punjab or the dravidian states from breaking off?
After america had its civil war, the south was also under military occupation, its literally the only way to deal with secessionists.
