Questions & Mysteries Why are Vinsmokes so weak?

The same people saying nothing happened to Oven are the ones who are bringing up Katakuri vs. Ichiji. Hilarious. What's even funnier is that Ichiji had to self-sacrifice in the middle of enemy territory, while Oven was protected by an army right after he got attacked.

Oven was fine bro. I didn’t see oven go down for the count that arc . Landing good attacks is cool but you gotta take him out . He tanked everything was still fine
I did. Where was he at the end? Him and Snack got knocked the fuck out. Smoothie, Daifuku and one-armed Pero were the only ones left standing.

People forget Snack+Oven were supposed to take care of Germa, while Smoothie+Daifuku were supposed to chase Straw Hats. When Straw Hats left, the Fishman pirates fought them.

Fans hyped up Germa far more than Oda did. Stuff like "Elbaf is the strongest nation", "even the Marines fear to enter Wano","mobilise the admirals because this could the biggest threat that Sakazuki's leadership has faced", now that's hype. That's measuring things against known quantities so the reader knows that Oda is saying "these guys are big deals."

Germa never got anything like that. They ended a war in a place we'd never heard of. Judge beat four fodder kings. Their glory days of ruling East Blue were centuries ago. We had enough to know that they were no pushovers, but absolutely nothing that they were one of the great powers of the world.
Why is Arlong weak, Oda hyped Arlong by having him be capable of ruling East Blue with the help of Nami maps.

Arlong believed he could have ruled East Blue. The reality is he was hopelessly deluded and if it wasn't for corrupt Marines he'd have been crushed by someone, probably Smoker.

He was strong at the time, but he was a literal big fish in a small pond. It's also hard to compare a character Oda hyped in the first 100 chapters of the series, when the characters were the weakest they've been, when we barely knew anything of the world, to ones we are seeing now, where (wild cards like Imu, Rocks and SSG aside) we have a pretty good idea what the balance of power really meant. If you take Rocks and SSG, for example, who have been introduced in the ~150 odd chapters since Germa, you see a real difference in how they are hyped. Again, Rocks and SSG get known quantities. Something strong enough to replace the Warlords. Roger's greatest foe, who fought him and Garp and had three of the future Yonko on his crew. Germa had nothing compared to that.
