Questions & Mysteries Why did Luffy's fruit become relevant years after he became a famous pirate?

When they became rivals? Mihawk was already famous during Roger's era, Shanks made his fame from his duels with Mihawk.

Shanks at some point attacked Mihawk or the other way around.
They're always been rivals:

Yup, either Shanks or Mihawk at one point in the time sought the other for a fight and then they ended up becoming rivals. Why do you think Shanks immediately thought Mihawk came to him for a duel as soon as he paid a visit? They were fighting to one-up each other. They have a reason for their duels. This is different from attacking enemies.

luffy's fruit not being rubber? kaido is also the first opponent to point it out.
just sounds too convenient.
Lmao, this is so dumb. Luffy trained under Rayleigh, fought Doffy, and then fought Katakuri but Oda chose Kaido of all people to tell us what Luffy's fruit shouldn't be able to do.
What do you mean? He said "he's altering the trajectory, rubber shouldn't be able to do that". He really only just questioned it, and EVEN with that we can't guess what it in fact is.

Kata and Doffy didn't say anything about that, and neither have any of our users. But Gear 4 isn't a new concept, and I don't think what it does is an asspull either.

Did Rayleigh know about it? He should if Roger's crew know the truth from One Piece. Perhaps this is why he went out of retirement for Luffy

Luffy's fruit is seemingly not rubber and Oda made Kaido point it out for us by saying, "Rubber shouldn't be able to do what G4 can do." Lanji's saying Oda conveniently made Kaido say it when he's about to reveal the fruit's true nature/element. He's just indirectly implying the Joy Boy is in GGnM plot isn't preplanned or else he could've at least made the others, those who encountered G4, hint at this ability being unusual for a rubber fruit.

It has nothing to do with the Joy Boy plot. Luffy's fruit is seemingly not rubber and Oda made Kaido point it out for us by saying, "Rubber shouldn't be able to do what G4 can do." He could have not wanted to reveal it until now, the focus was mainly Luffy mastering all types of haki until he hit a wall with that progress. There's no way something like Luffy's awakening wasn't preplanned. Fans have been wondering about it for decades, let alone Oda.

Obviously it's meant to shock us now

Lucci outright said that Gear 3 makes zero sense
Lol what? He fought against Lucci with G2?

it was also to let us know the importance of his fruit in the grand scheme of things and it explains exactly why it matters to the world government now .

you dont get to pick and choose what's important out of wsw's bit of info
he himself recognizes the loss of the fruit was ultimately the reason why he had to endure those 12 years of imprisonment
I'm not picking and choosing. Him being "imprisoned for 12 years" is not a major topic in the conversation, it's his grudge against Shanks and what he learned in prison

Anyway, semantics. I can believe what you are saying. Maybe the WG did know it was important to an extent. However, they definitely did not know it was related to Joyboy directly, otherwise the last 1000 chapters does not make sense.

Luffy's awakening is probably pre-planned but we can't say the same about his fruit being an entirely different element.

I just want to point out some early dialogue from Shanks that people have very obviously overlooked:

He agrees with Buggy that being a pirate is doing things your own way and fighting to the finish on clashing ideals.

This scene is exactly what I've honestly based my Shanks theories on as a foundation Clearly Luffy wants to fight Shanks. Clearly Shanks does too based on how he looks at his bounties.

Let's say that Shanks wants Luffy to accomplish something because of this DF and he assumes Luffy has a particular role in doing so, what if Luffy disagrees with the method? What if they clash on any idea in the future, considering they are in fact meant to clash? If taking Shanks' words seriously here, a clash of ideals could mean a fight to the death. This is why I think this is where the series will reserve its climax on.

Shanks, imo, is Oda's biggest and oldest plot twist. If he's meant to be this "inspirational" figure that ends up being not who he says he is, then I think we might be gearing up for a VERY emotional finish to this series. Luffy being inspired then subsequently betrayed by someone he trusted is actually a great plot twist and one we seem to be heading towards
Shanks is a man with goals and ambition, but clearly he's also man with principle, and him selling out Luffy to Gosorei or getting in conflict with Luffy is crossing the line. It just shows Shanks willing to do anything to uphold his *ideals*. In the end that will just make him another *the end justifies the means* kind of guy. It will ruin him.

This is why I don't think it's him "selling" Luffy out. Not something I believe. I think there is a hidden motive. It has nothing to do with him being a rat, it has to do with him trying to cause an event to occur by revealing said information.

Don't know what else to say, but I don't think this ruins Shanks at all, especially because we know nothing about his character or motivations. We know he has "some" good intentions, but zero idea as what it's all meant for. He doesn't even talk about One Piece
