Another bad chapter for Yamao4nakama. But on the bright side, a couple tiny points for Yamao4Momo. They're even similar in how they both gained their df powers, lol. As for her straw hat candidacy:
1. Yamao has a mythical zoan. This adds desperately needed uniqueness to her character so that can be seen as a positive. But on the other hand, it could also be seen as a huge negative.
This same logic can apply to all the crew's df users. Oda gives them seemingly weak, creepy or otherwise undesirable powers but then makes them seem really awesome through his creativity. Neither the gomu, hito, hana, nor yomi fruits would be on anyone's df wish list. By complete contrast, Yamao has what's likely to be a Kirin mythical zoan. Kirin being the king of mythological beasts. A df with a special power sought out by the world's strongest creature Kaido himself. It seems far more Oda's style to give a straw hat a humble devil fruit and then make it awesome from then onwards.
2. If Yamao really does have the Kirin df, then it's highly unlikely Oda would make the only two zoans on the crew both have a deer theme associated with their transformations.
3. Ability reveal was very underwhelming. The design not only feels highly unoriginal and just an uninspired Sulong clone, but it's ugly af. Granted, that's just my opinion. What isn't however is that Yamao's "hugely awaited" df reveal wasn't even the focus of the chapter. Franky vs Sasaki was. Take Carrot's Sulong for example. She had a full chapter dedicated to her, characters commenting on how amazing the design was, a scenario specifically created to let her shine, we saw her transformation in detail, and she had the chapter named after her. Yamao got none of that, only 2 pages slapped onto the end of a Franky highlight chapter. Oda could've kept her design in silhouette for the cliffhanger and then revealed it properly in the next chapter like he did with Kaido:
Although the df itself is a very powerful ability, it was not given the respectful introduction you'd expect for a future MC.
4. She's way too strong. Although it was completely off screened, the mere fact that she's putting up a decent enough fight against a serious hybrid Kaido is a huge problem. Yes the M3 is a thing. Yes it matters. People denied its existence to include Jinbe, only for Oda to stall Jinbe's joining, give Zoro and Sanji power ups and then have Sanji fight Queen whilst Jinbe was stuck with Who's Who. Oda is never going to a character join the crew that in any way disrupts what he created with Luffy/Zoro/Sanji. And Yamao is undeniably stronger than at least Sanji with there being no likely way for that to change by the end of the arc.
5. She confirmed she still has an affiliation with Wano. Recognising it as a country she can't just abandon. Ordinarily, this will be something that just gets resolved by the end of the arc and would serve as solid conflict to make her joining process more interesting. However, we know that Wano is going to be relevant in the story going ahead. This isn't the Baratie or Water 7. It's been repeatedly highlighted as a country of immense importance and mystery. Even after the arc ends, Wano will still play a role in the story. And her will to protect Wano is confirmed to not be less important than her will to sail. another thing i don't like is that she does not look like yamato anymore:
the hairline is different, the dark eyebrows too even the horns changed their shape and position. if i saw this image without context i don't thing i would know this is her. if the hair looked the same in the front i think it would be enough to have similarity but it looks like a careless design.
and i agree her face looks ugly. this is huge a disappointment to me because i was starting to feel excited about her but looking at this makes me bored.

I am actually not as disappointed with yamato's DF design being nothing original.... but the dukes...oh god I was expecting them to be designed superior to carrot when she was first showcased...it was hype just thinking how those two especially would be. But all we got was oda hiring 5 year kids to scribble around, their designs look so lame and such low effort work.
