I am frustrated with how atrocious Wano’s pacing was, but now I don’t want it to end because too many of Zoro’s plot lines were left open.
It’s my own fault for thinking that Zoro would have relevant character development and moments when Oda is 90% a plot based writer. The plot completely failed Zoro. He’s a character who is defined by his actions in the story, but his words never led to action. Instead they were completely dropped. That is quite a disservice to Zoro, a character who always keeps his word.
I have seen plenty of arguments that Zoro doesn’t need an elaborate backstory. I agree with that statement. The problem is that Oda introduced plot points that would have developed Zoro only to seemingly drop them. Zoro looks just like Ushimaru and Yamato knew him too. Zoro is compared to Ryuma during the raid, but that comparison is dropped and becomes a Joyboy comparison. Oda’s answers to these questions are just lazy. His answers come in an SBS where he claims he didn’t know how to answer Zoro’s lineage in Wano. Then you don’t bring it up in the first place.
I confess that I am upset that ZKK hasn’t happened yet. But that’s not why I am upset with Zoro’s treatment in Wano. I am upset because of the things I said in my previous paragraphs. I think any fandom should be worried with how One Piece will progress going forward. The way Oda wrote Wano as a whole is abysmal and atrocious through a storytelling perspective and I am worried for the final arc and subsequent conclusion of One Piece.
