i mean he was his captain and he was 2nd in command - even renji follows byakuya til the end.

i mean we can even list Kyo and Uki could also be labeled as traitors given they both took on Genryuu in an attempt to help aid ichi in saving rukia along with division 11 which is why they fought the trio.
