Luffy took a sword for a gag and because it is a theme of the arc.
Whoever fights at his best with a sword is a swordsman.
I really doubt anyone is nerfing himself on purpose just because they want to use the sword.
What is better arsenal than a sword? What would have been better against Rayleigh than a sword itself?

define "fights at their best". WB most powerful moves where purely gura based and he still picked his bisento on occasion.

Anybody who can handle a weapon sufficiently is their best with a weapon, this is a shitty argument.
Even if you count the defense alone, you are better with a weapon than without one, blocking attacks and such.

Kizaru assaulted Whitebeard using Yasakani no Magatama. And he shot Marco down using lasers. He shot a laser through Whitebeard's chest also.
It's like people using guns. Roger used a gun, Kaido used a gun to headshot Oden, Vergo was seen carrying a rifle. Blackbeard is carrying and using guns, Doffy uses a gun as a finisher.

None of those were an actual fight but cheap shot fest that Marineford was. When forced into a 1vs1 against Rayleigh, we saw how he fights, as a swordsman who ended up pissed because he couldn't catch the Supernovas. He was at his best with a sword.

This is just a philosophical approach that makes certain swordsmen respect each other and not fight based on animosity but respect.
While One Piece definitely distinguishes between them (Mihawk, Ryuuma, Zoro...), it was never implied only them count as swordsman.

Fine. If that’s the truth, and we must consider Big Mom and Kizaru swordsmen, then Mihawk’s title always has been a lie and he’s never been the WSS, because those two are stronger than him.
Opposite of the truth, as its really used to protect the integrity of the argument and the perception of Mihawk's strength, by keeping people out of the discussion that are clearly stronger than him.
In reality, the people that insist on making this a discussion or whatever are the people that need it because they’re too hung up on titles that they overrate Mihawk because of it. I don’t care for this discussion myself one way or another, because it’s irrelevant to where Mihawk actually is.
