I personally think it's closed on purpose, hopefully when he gets an extreme diff he'll show what exactly is happening with that eye.

Ironically in Rurnoi Kenshin there is a technique called Shin no ippo, when the move is used the opponent with a weaker will cannot move, you become paralyzed from the chi that's being released.

Here's an explanation from the Wiki :

He projects his chi through his eyes at his opponent. This completely hypnotizes the target and Jin-e usually uses it to paralyze his target, leaving them unable to move. He can control how strong the effects are and can also use it on himself to make himself believe he is invincible and greatly increase his power. He can also use it to paralyze a person to the point of paralyzing their lungs, making them unable to breathe, causing them to suffocate and die. There are three methods to break the effects of the spell: It can be dispelled by himself, his opponent's chi must have a similar strength to his own in order for them to break it, or he must be killed.

Interesting suggestion, but I don’t think it’s the case. I really just feel like it’s an aesthetic choice on Oda’s part to make Zoro look cooler.

I'm on the fence about it, I can't imagine Oda taking one of Zoro's eyes without some explanation it's pretty crazy that none of the Strawhats even brought it up to Zoro since the TS.

Also I'm re-reading Ruroni Kenshin right now i see a few instances of copy and paste from Oda what do you think ?

Oh, absolutely. For starters, I see some qualities from Saito found in Mihawk. Even his rivalry with Kenshin echoes the one Mihawk has with Shanks. And just as how Saito would stomp Wanderer Kenshin pre training, so too could Mihawk Shanks.

I also find some similarities between King and Shishio, but purely on an aesthetic level, and how Shishio was originally envisioned with a leather outfit like King.

Sure .. I read Ruroni Kenshin years ago so I figured I'd jog my memory by re-reading but so far I can tell you, its similar to Wano it's the end of a war period and the government has taken priority and no one in the capital is allowed to carry swords.

Similarly in the Capital of Wano no one is allowed to carry swords and if I'm not mistaken that's what got Zoro arrested since he is the only person with a Sword in the capital which made him the killer (ironically Kenshin at the start is blamed for being a killer even though his Sword is not sharp)

There's a few more instances but this post would be way too long
