What I am more baffled by is the fact that he keeps trying to cast female fighter characters despite failing miserably every single time he tries.

The reason we know so well that he sucks at those kinds of characters is because he keeps trying to shove them down readers' throats.

We wouldn't know he was so utterly awful at them if he just didn't write them. The man doesn't know his own weaknesses.

Oda is so bad in his attempts at female fighters that I would rather see no more of them in One Piece than see whatever other dumb duds Oda has planned.

It's really telling that a simple video game such as Pirate Warriors 4 did an infinitely better job at using and highlighting OP female characters than the manga did.

In some ways yes, however others of his tendencies and aspects tend to disgruntle me instead, as it's the case with his treatment of female characters and his overwank of characters who aren't so great such as Ace or Oden.

i mean the fact that he seems to have a unique mindset not his specific beliefs.

I actually stopped caring about one piece.


I definitely read it every week but it's mainly because I am on this forum and also because I want to know story will unfold.


Not taking much part in discussions as I used to simply because I don't give a damm anymore.

Oda won't change his way of writing. He is at the top in his field and I don't think any editors can come upto to him and say what's going wrong

As story is progressing, he is adding more and more characters in the arc but not doing justice to them. Wano and WCI are classic cases.

Heck, we are few years in wano with 140 odd chapters

And the main antagonist kaido isn't fleshed out till now.

King and Queen got done in few chapters

BM got done in without going all out.


We didn't learn anything about mysteries. Infact, more mysteries got piled up. Don't know how he will resolve all these mysteries in future without compromising the quality


Haki became more complex but he still didn't dedicate few chapters to explain how haki works and what are the levels as if he himself doesn't know and is making things up while moving forward

Awakening isn't explained and fuck explanation - two yonkous went down without awakening lmao


I just want wano to be over and have Blackbeard and shanks come into picture. I have some hope because Oda delivers when it comes to these two but then who knows

That's the thing: he doesn't consider it a weakness.
Damsels are Oda's preferred type of women.
It's enough for him if the girl can potentially fend for herself or shows the ambition to do so when no man is around.

It's not just Oda, this is typical Japanese society.

It depends who we're comparing, newer mangakas are doing better in that sense but Oda is super old school.

I cam guarantee most of the problem stems from just wanting their women to have big boobs. And that's one of their biggest traits as a character. To show them off.
It's just, ugly, boring and overdone.

Yeah, I got my friend into OP and she said she really disliked the treatment of women. She felt like the fan service was egregious not because it’s just fan service but because it felt like that’s all most of the girls were around for, they were typically weak and damsels . The exceptions are Yamato and Linlin and Linlin is… well a gag. Compared to bleach with much more sensational fan service but the women in Bleach have much more agency and effect the plot, or generally given respect.

I've seen Wano as a massive improvement in that sense, whereas I expected none.

Yamato and Ulti are pretty cool and tough, and it's the first time Nami got hurt since the time skip. I'm here for it
