First off, Rachel Maddow has the personality of a wet towel, don't know anyone that likes her. Second, it's kind of a stretch to say she's implying you're alt right if you like LOTR. At best I'll grant you that she's generalizing and reaching with her arguments.

Indeed, we must understand that in Lord of the Rings, there were a LOT of racist biases. Those could be what she is referencing here as the far right might take those dog whistle and uses them for their agenda.

But it only means that the Lord of the Rings is used by the Far right, that's all.

Its the same thing with antisemits and Celestial Dragon in One Piece (although in this case, its not because of a Racist bias of Oda, simple because of a comparizon with their antisemitic agenda and the "jew lobby" they claim to be existing)

I understand nothing of the story. But it's basically what she said because if everyone loves it (which I believe they do?), it wouldn't make JD a alt right by using it. So her comparison wouldn't make sense unless only alt right did that.

That's not what I heard in the first clip, she said:

"Lord of the Rings is a sort of favorite for a lot of far rights and alt right figures" And then continue in explaining that a lot of those folks are naming their brand after The lord of the Ring serie or language.

In reality, she doesn't even imply that being fan of this franchise makes you a far right, only the commentator says this. She is simply explaining that those far right love to take stuff from pop culture. Which is indeed something that far rightist tend to do a lot especially to use those stuff as dog whitles. And its important to note that usage pattern to identify those Dog whitles.

So no, she is simply explaining a reality and you can still be a fan of the franchise without being a nazi
