If he is fighting Kaido and other novas eventually aren't there has to be a reason, just like the reason why Oda makes him state those words after bestowing Enma upon him and making him undergo the training. It definitely can't all be coincidence. Way more elements than with Luffy are present here. It's too much to dismiss that this is Zoro's fight.
It's still up for debate whether Zoro has Conqueror's Haki or not. Rayleigh has it too and the right hand man of the new PK will be above the right hand man of the old PK, it's logical. He's also going to surpass Oden, as stated by Tengu who is sure that Zoro will turn Enma black. Something Oden failed to do. Zoro will be far above Katakuri, who is also a conqueror. Katakuri is the first mate of a mere Yonko, while Zoro will be the partner of the new PK who beats the Yonko and overthrows the WG.

Zoro isn't Rayleigh. Oda gave Luffy both Sanji and Zoro for this reason

Zoro bowed down to Mihawk in order to be a good partner for Luffy. Luffy bowed down to Hancock to have her subordinates turned back. Both willing to bow down for the sake of others.

Nobody rivaled/overshadowed Ray in the crew except when oden joined for a year

One thing you are missing however is that Zoro does not give “strong” Rayleigh vibes. He definitely has some parallels with the character, but not all of it matches. Rayleigh is intelligent and had the charisma of a leader. Zoro, on the contrary, is not a leader himself. He is a conqueror, a perfect soldier, makes others follow him in battles but not as a captain/leader. Sanji parallels Rayleigh in terms of intelligence and leader charisma. Plus, Rayleigh is also a womanizer :D
I think Sanji and Zoro, in total, make up Rayleigh and I expect it to be the same for Scopper too. If anything, I thought that Scopper was more similar to Zoro in terms of personality from Oden flashbacks (while Sanji is bit more similar to Rayleigh in terms of personality) and he was the only non-introduced Roger pirate that was given plenty of dialogues and screen time in the flashback, which is a sign that he is going to appear or have a role in the series.
