General & Others Oda's biggest mistake

#61
Not sure if you can blame the Supernovas for that, it's more that Oda nowadays wants to focus more and more on Worldbuilding these days instead of characters he focused on for decades now , it's like when a band decides to try a new genre after doing a certain style for decades
I mean focusing this much in World building is what causes him to not be able end one point cuz other appears.

Till some point it's entertaining then one loses interest if overused.

"..instead of characters he focused on for decades ..."
Emm I don't think anyone has a problem with it after all the success of preTS was due them.
I started reading OP with a decent group(10 years ago) of friends and now they no longer care due this aspect.

I am talking from the point of view of Oda, he works on One Piece 24/7 for decades now, it's a literal job to him, drawing the same characters for decades probably makes you wanna try something new

Would you rather he creates a side project Manga to "vent out" his creativity? Like what Kentaro Miura did with Duranki?

This. One Piece has felt fresh to me all this time because Oda gravitated from character building to world building. Honestly Oda's characters aren't these super deep characters you can do full studies on. Alot of them are resolved and have their drives to reach their goals. What Oda excels in is worldbuilding and variety. I loved Enies Lobby for its emotion, but I was hell of a lot more captivated by what CP-9 was, the destruction of the buster call, the gates of justice, Enies Lobby's whole "daylight island" theme, the idea of justice and how anyone sent there gets sent to Impel Down or Marineford and more. All of this has gotten STRONGER in One Piece. That same intrigue has constantly gotten better since Alabasta with Pluton or Skypiea/Shandia.

Aka, I didn't love Oden's backstory for Oden. I loved that flashback for the Scabbards and their designs, Whitebeard, Roger and Odens adventures with them. I got CHILLS when I read the laugh tale sequence. Seriously, it's one of the best moments in One Piece. The atmosphere just keeps getting better the further along GL we go.

"He already had them in mind ..."

Any source of it?

I don't recall him saying that .

I do recall that he said kid was someone who will play a role in the future but no more than that.

"so he created the characters and introduced them there"
Yeah the editor was the reason of their existence.
It was from an interview that was translated on Reddit years ago. Can't seem to find it now, since when I search for it, we get a different interview from 2017 which suggests otherwise. So it seems like he did create them there on the spot. But they weren't the editor's idea, it was Oda's. They just told him to make the story more interesting.

I don't like Sabo getting Mera Mera, Lolden's existence, dragged Udon, Kaido one shotting Luffy, Zoro fell post Kamazou battle, Bege cover story etc but that's not the greatest mistakes.

The greatest mistakes are:
1. How he handles Post TS Sanji and Big Mom
2. Splitting the crew in Dressrosa onwards
3. The crew is not completed yet. If I could choose, I would prefer the crew was completed in Dressrosa arc at the latest

Haki

It has no basis in reality, ruined fight dynamics, devil fruits are rendered almost useless
DFs almost useless? I want to agree with you on the general drawbacks of Haki but that sort of invalidates the statement.

Haki is like many other things (character designs being the second most glaring) in that Oda thought about it waaaay before it actually came into the plot, so it doesn't line up well with the groundwork he had been putting down.
