General & Others Oda's biggest mistake

#83
its been said before and i say it again
pell should have died
Well atleast we saw him getting blasted off to a doctor, and give him the excuse of being a zoan fighter....but pound? He was being beheaded by a human like Oven....but still survived, I can't think of any kind of excuse for his survival at all.

Oh and Yamato's blind and crazy fanboyism of Oden to the point that she calls herself like him and call Momonosuke "My son".
I would say wait for a while. Not sure what the heck oda wnats with her character, but we should probably wait for a while to get more info on yamato and reason for adding her to story.

The Kozukis and Toki the plot device/McMuffin.
I think you mean MacGuffin?

Reusing nonstop Ace for emotional purposes.
And I didn't even cry when he died. Infact it was merry's scene which made me cry the most so far

Oden flashbacks, having Kaido in Wano 20+ years ago was a bad move
And WB pirates acting like they knew nothing about how things went bad for their friends.

Toki.

She was apparently that chick who came from 800 years ago, with time powers and shit... with a resume like that, we expected her to be special, and give us info bombs and shit.. how Wano came to be, clues of what happened to the void century back then, etc... but nothing..

She came from the void century, yet revealed nothing about it... and apparently died, like any ordinary flashback character, with nothing to reveal, even though she came from 800 years ago... I mean, what happened to that? And hell, instead of Toki, it was Oden who came up with that 20 years thing...

I feel like a lot of what makes her special hasn't been shown yet. We don't know why her clan was outside of Wano. We don't know why she wanted to come back. We don't really know what she knew. She also "died" offscreen (all we got was the sound effect of her collapsing from arrow shots), which strongly indicates she's likely alive.

I wouldn't expect to know more about her until later this arc or the void century tbh.

Oda's biggest mistake is the Yonkou saga!
One Piece quality dropped when this saga started. Inflation of bounties (which mean nothing anymore), powerscale (Kaido one shotting Luffy after he defeated Katakuri a YC1 lvl, Doffy stomping Smoker, Law and Sanji and seeing G4 Luffy was enough for him, Queen vs BM also). It would have been so good to see high tiers giving a though fight to top tiers like WBP did to the admirals at Marineford.
Also too long for nothing, always the same climax (an incontrolable big thing comes and Luffy ends it).
Too much importance for fodders when the main cast is forgotten.
Oda is stuck now because of his own mistake : giving too much hype for yonkou ... for nothing !

Oden
Yamato
Logia
Haki and no indication of someone using CoO
Same gags
Titles and no rivals for those titles
Silhouetting this late in the story
introducing/focusing on unimportant character like Holdem while he has many untouched important characters
Not giving Usopp a gun
Crew not talking

Same old stuff.

The arc will end, Toki will remain useless

The Kaido one-shot irritates me much more than I thought it would initially. From a storytelling perspective, it kinda makes sense that Kaido would do this because he's hyped as the "Strongest Creature". From a powerscaling perspective, it kinda doesn't make sense because of everything we saw Luffy go through in the last arc, but I can easily write that off as Kaido being infinitely stronger than Katakuri and Cracker. The problem I have with it is how the one-shot is handled afterwards. After getting knocked out, Luffy learns Ryou because he sees Kaido's scales as the issue, but that wasn't the entire problem. None of his training (at least what we saw of it) had anything to do with improving his durability. He was just fighting fodder (provided by Queen because of logic). Even if Luffy can damage Kaido this time, for all intents and purposes, he should still get one-shot.

The biggest mistake I think this series made was jumping straight to Yonko. It was far too soon for any of the strawhats to challenge Yonko, so Oda wrote himself into a corner when trying to justify their survival. He had to make the antagonists incredibly incompetent. Which is incredibly disappointing, considering that these are supposed to be the strongest pirates of this era. We should have spent some time exploring the New World, maybe run into some supernovas, get more accustomed to the differences between this sea and Paradise.
