People still don't understand this. Kid's awakening isn't to make metal attract to people, his awakening is to magnetize whatever he wants. In this case he "assigns" it to Big Mom, but there's nothing stopping him from assigning other things.

Its not because he's a powerhouse though, that's not how Kid thinks. It's because he sees Luffy as a rival so he's happy he's meeting that expectation while also enjoying his fight. Authors do this all the time in shonen and its a form of acknowledgement.
